6 HGTV Design Trends On Their Way Out

Is anyone else a fan of HGTV? If you are interested in homes, home building, remodeling, or design, there is probably a show on HGTV that you will love. HGTV is incredibly popular, and design trends from a variety of their shows have gone viral. And while some design trends became extremely popular, some of those are on their way out, according to current trends. Do you have any of these trends in your home? Read on to find out!

  1. Scandinavian Style: While many people are still highlighting the minimalist feature in Scandinavian design, the trend is moving toward a more modern-traditional aesthetic.

  2. All-White Kitchens: Kitchens are trending toward bolder and warmer colors and designs.

  3. Subway Tile: Subway tile has been exceedingly popular, and many people are tired of seeing the design so much and want something more unique instead.

  4. Wallpaper: Wallpaper is generally very specific to the person, and if you plan on selling your home at some point in the future, you may want to consider using the peel and stick type, instead of the traditional "permanent" type. It can save a lot of money and hassle in the long run, whether your tastes change, or you want to do a refresh before selling your home.

  5. Granite Countertops: We are seeing a trend where countertops are making more of a bold statement. Instead of granite, many builders are now choosing a material such as Corian, which has a more cohesive and uniform look.

  6. Macrame: Popular in the 1970's, these wall hangings made a comeback. However, this super-specific style does not go in many homes. The good news is it is easy to swap these items out for something else.
